Visualization of Wagner Gala Concert - a cross media production of CBM -students

Wagner Gala Concert was a unique, splendorous media production with Pori Sinfonietta –orchestra and students from Pori units of Aalto University and Turku School of Economics together with students of Satakunta University of Applied Science. Visualized concert was performed in 19th of April 2012 in Pori.

The music and media of Wagner Gala created a multi-censored performance from the music of Richard Wagner. The aims of visualization was to create a coherent visual experience to support the music that was composed together from Wagner’s operas Tannhäuser, Tristan und Isolde, Lohegrin and Parsifal.

The media production of Wagner Gala was part of the Cross Media Production course of Creative Business Management –MA-program. The aim of the course is get students the understanding of management of creative artistic production and leadership in multidisciplinary, crowsoursed process. The production was supported by Aalto Media Factory. The production period took 3 months, including lectures about cross-media production, scriptwriting, VJ-culture, visualization and also about the themes and music of Richard Wagner. The main media production included among others under water video shootings in Pori swimming hall, animation production in Helsinki and in Satakunta University of Applied Science, air shooting in Helsinki and Pori.

Students from three universities took part to the visual design and project. The director of media technology and visualization was Petri Ruikka MA, alumni of Deprtment of Media. The producer was professor Marjo Mäenpää from Pori unit of department of Art form School of Arts.
